ProTELEC Security + Safety Ltd. and ProTELEC Systems Ltd. (collectively “ProTELEC”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) are committed to protecting the privacy and security of the personal information entrusted to us. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, retain, and protect personal information through our websites protelecalarms.com and proteleccheckmate.com (collectively, the “Sites”), and in the course of providing our security and safety services.

This policy is intended to comply with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy legislation in Canada.

We may collect the following types of personal information:

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Name, mailing address, email address, and phone number when you contact us, request a quote, or submit a service request.
  • Account credentials and authentication information when you create an account or access our systems.
  • Payment information when you purchase products or services from us.

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

2.3 Information From Service Delivery

  • Alarm system details, monitoring data, and service history related to the security services we provide.
  • Emergency contact information and premises access information required to provide monitoring and response services.
  • Video or audio recordings where our services include surveillance or monitoring systems. Some features of our Services, such as tracking and emergency response (collectively, “GeoServices”), use location information. Before GeoServices information can be used, you must first opt-in to activate these Services. If you enable these features, we will automatically collect and store location information from your Personal Device. This location information may include your current location or places you have recently visited. This information will only be used to provide our Services.

3. How We Use Your Information
We use the personal information we collect to:

  • Provide, operate, and maintain our security and safety services.
  • Process transactions and send related information including confirmations and invoices.
  • Respond to inquiries, service requests, and customer support needs.
  • Send periodic communications about your account, services, or relevant updates.
  • Improve our websites, products, and services.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
  • Detect, prevent, and respond to security incidents, fraud, or other harmful activities.
  • Conduct internal analysis and reporting to improve our operations.

ProTELEC does not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following limited circumstances:

These parties are contractually required to protect your information and may only use it for the purposes we specify.

  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information when required to do so by law, court order, or other legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of ProTELEC, our customers, or others.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify affected individuals prior to any such transfer.
  • Aggregated Data: We may share aggregated, anonymized demographic or statistical data with business partners or for marketing purposes. This data does not identify individual users.

5. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes for which it was collected, to provide our services, and to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations. Specifically:

  • Customer account and service records are retained for a minimum of seven (7) years following the end of the customer relationship, in accordance with applicable legal and contractual requirements.
  • Monitoring and alarm event records are retained in accordance with our contractual obligations and applicable regulations.
  • Website usage data collected through analytics tools is retained in accordance with the retention settings of those tools (typically 26 months for Google Analytics).
  • Marketing communications data is retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
    When personal information is no longer required, we securely destroy or anonymize it in accordance with our data disposal procedures.

ProTELEC takes the security of your personal information seriously. We implement and maintain appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. These measures include:

  • Encryption of data in transit using TLS/SSL protocols.
  • Encryption of sensitive data at rest.
  • Access controls and authentication requirements, including multi-factor authentication for systems that process personal data.
